Molecular sieves are crystalline metal aluminosilicates with a three-dimensional interconnecting network of silica and alumina tetrahedra. In plain English, the desiccant has many small pores which give it super absorbent properties. Molecular Sieve is designed to absorb large quantities of water out of your extraction solvent. The small pores can absorb water and ammonia and is generally used for dehydrating solvents such as ethanol or methanol.
Designed as a replacement for the “filter driers” or “grenades” as people have called them, the Molecular Sieve is super absorbent.
